Veterinary Services: No New Cases of Foot-and-Mouth Disease

The Veterinary Services announced that there are no new cases of foot-and-mouth disease on the island. The situation is considered positive, however, sampling and tracing continue on a nationwide basis. The second dose of vaccine has begun for cattle and sheep, while the first dose has been completed in a large percentage of animals. The culling of animals in small units in Livadia and Dali is ongoing. Approximately 20,000 sheep and goats and 1,200 cattle have already been culled. The Veterinary Services are facing reactions from farmers, but are trying to manage the situation calmly and continue the necessary procedures to control the disease, as required by the European Union.
