Venezuela: Seven Explosions in Caracas Near Military Base – Blackouts and Reports of Aircraft Overflights

Strong explosions, a total of seven so far, and sounds resembling aircraft overflights were heard in the early hours of Saturday (local time 02:00, 08:00 Greece time) in the Venezuelan capital, Caracas, according to a reporter for the French News Agency. Witnesses reported to Reuters that the explosions caused panic in the city, while power outages were reported in southern areas near a large military base and a smoke column was visible. The noises continued until approximately 02:15 (08:15 Cyprus time). Residents in various neighborhoods took to the streets, and gatherings of people were observed in different parts of the city. The Venezuelan government has not yet issued an official statement or confirmation of the events. The incident comes at a time of heightened tension with the United States, following US military strikes on vessels allegedly involved in drug trafficking in the Caribbean. US President Donald Trump has left open the possibility of military intervention in Venezuela and has stated that the days of President Nicolás Maduro are “numbered.” Reports indicate strikes against an airport in the state of Miranda, while videos circulating show military helicopters flying over Caracas. The situation remains unclear and information is limited, as there is no official confirmation from either side.
