Venezuela: Maria Corina Machado Vows to Return Soon, Praises Trump

Published January 6, 2026, 16:14

Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado has pledged to return to her country soon and expressed her confidence that her movement will win the next elections. She also reiterated her praise for Donald Trump for potentially overturning Nicolas Maduro. However, Trump's preference for cooperating with interim President Delsy Rodriguez and other officials of the Maduro government has disappointed the opposition and increased tension in Venezuela. Machado maintains that the opposition won the 2024 elections despite allegations of fraud and that they would receive over 90% of the vote in free elections.
