Vehicle License Renewals Begin Today – Deadline and Penalties Announced

The renewal process for vehicle licenses for the year 2026 begins today, January 7th. The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works has announced that licenses can be renewed for periods of 3, 6, 9, or 12 months, with a final deadline of March 11th, 2026. After the deadline, a penalty will be imposed, calculated as the sum of €10 and 10% of the license fee. A certificate of roadworthiness and insurance are required for renewal. The renewal process is completed by printing the license, which will display the expiration month and year, as well as the vehicle registration number. If the process is interrupted before printing, the renewal is not considered complete and must be repeated. TOM has improved its computer system to increase control over the issuance of licenses. TOM advises citizens to renew their vehicle licenses promptly to avoid system overload. Those who do not wish to renew their license for 2026 must submit a notification of vehicle immobilization, otherwise they will continue to owe the circulation fee. Vehicles that have not been renewed or declared immobilized for 2025 will be deregistered, unless the outstanding amount is paid and the license is renewed by March 11th, 2026.
