US Not Confirming or Denying Use of Tympou Airport

The US Department of Defense has neither confirmed nor denied reports from the Turkish Cypriot press regarding the potential use of the illegal Tympou airport for operations against Iran. A US official's response to the newspaper 'Yeni Duzen' stated that US military aircraft regularly use areas hosting the US European Command, based on agreements with allies, but further details cannot be disclosed for security reasons. The report emphasizes that the official US military presence in Cyprus is limited to the Republic of Cyprus and the British Bases, which have not been used for offensive purposes. It also notes that the Incirlik base in Turkey has not been used for aggressive actions. According to the newspaper, NOTAMs were issued by the US and Turkey in March for the airspace around Cyprus and the Tympou airport, respectively, valid until April 12th. This suggests increased activity in the airspace. Finally, the report states that Turkey has deployed F-16 fighter jets to the Tympou airport, raising concerns about the use of the illegal airport for military purposes.
