Unmarked Cattle Found in Geri: Police and Veterinary Services Investigations

Members of the Veterinary Services, accompanied by police officers, raided a livestock unit in Geri. During the raid, a number of cattle were found that did not have the required markings. Investigations by the services and the Police are underway to determine the reasons for the lack of marking and to investigate any violations of regulations. The raid was carried out as part of increased checks carried out throughout Cyprus following the outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease. Failure to mark animals is a serious offense, as it hinders disease tracing and the implementation of measures to limit its spread. The authorities are investigating whether the lack of marking of the cattle is linked to the outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease and whether there has been negligence or violation of regulations by the owners of the unit. Checks will continue at other livestock units throughout Cyprus.
