UK Minister: Legal Basis for RAF Strikes on Iranian Missile Sites

British Deputy Prime Minister and Justice Secretary David Lamy stated that there is a legal basis for strikes by the Royal Air Force (RAF) from Akrotiri, Cyprus, against Iranian missile facilities, should they be used to attack British interests in the Middle East. RAF F-35 and Typhoon fighter jets are already operating in the region, intercepting missiles and drones launched by Iran against Britain's allies. The UK has granted the United States permission to use British military bases for defensive strikes. Defence Secretary John Healey did not rule out the involvement of British aircraft in attacks on Iran, noting that actions will be adjusted based on the evolving situation. London has faced criticism for its response, particularly regarding the defense of Cyprus and the Akrotiri base, which was targeted by a drone. Additionally, the HMS Dragon destroyer will be deployed to the Eastern Mediterranean to bolster air defenses, while efforts to repatriate British citizens from the region continue.
