Turkey Ratifies UN Agreement on Marine Biological Diversity

Turkey has ratified the agreement within the framework of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) concerning the Conservation and Sustainable Use of Marine Biological Diversity, signed in New York on September 27, 2024. The ratification followed a vote by the Turkish Grand National Assembly and its publication in the Official Gazette. The agreement is based on UNCLOS, of which Turkey is not a party. This ratification signifies Turkey's commitment to the preservation and sustainable use of marine biodiversity in areas beyond national jurisdiction, despite its non-participation in UNCLOS.
