Turkey Denies Missile Launch from Submarine off Karpas Peninsula

Turkey has firmly denied claims circulating on social media regarding a missile launch from a submarine off the Karpas Peninsula. The Turkish Presidency's Disinformation Combat Center (DMM) labeled the posts as misinformation, emphasizing that no launch occurred in Turkish or Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) territorial waters. The DMM stated that a check of the circulated images showed the launches captured in the video took place in international waters, not in the claimed area. The announcement urges the public not to trust baseless posts and to rely on official announcements from competent authorities. Initially, Turkish accounts on X (formerly Twitter) reproduced the news that missiles were launched from a submarine off Karpas, with the image reportedly captured by a Turkish Cypriot fisherman. The news was also relayed by Turkish Cypriot and Turkish media. However, the "Kipris Postasi" website, citing Turkish military sources, denied that the launches took place in TRNC territorial waters, confirming they occurred in international waters outside the territorial waters of the TRNC and Turkey. The military sources stated that the activities of a "floating vessel" took place in international waters.
