Turkey Denies Claims of 'Missile Launch from Submarine' off Karpas

Turkey categorically denied claims circulating on social media about a missile launch from a submarine off the Karpas peninsula. The Disinformation Combat Center (DMM) of the Turkish Presidential Directorate of Communications described the posts as misinformation. According to the DMM, the images accompanying the claims come from launches that took place in international waters and not in the area mentioned. A check of the images showed that there were no launches in Turkish territorial waters or those of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC). The DMM called on the public not to believe baseless and misleading posts and to trust only the official announcements of the competent authorities. This denial comes after the news was circulated on Turkish accounts on X, where it was reported that missiles were launched from a submarine within the territorial waters of the TRNC. Turkish media, such as the website “Kipris Postasi”, confirmed that the launches took place in international waters, citing military sources. This denial aims to restore the truth and prevent misinformation of the public.
