Trump to ABC News: "I Took Him Out First" on Khamenei's Death

Donald Trump claimed that the American government under his leadership was responsible for the death of Iranian leader Ali Khamenei, asserting that he "took him out first" and that this action was connected to previous assassination attempts against him during the 2024 election period. Trump's claims come after revelations from US prosecutors regarding two cases in which individuals are alleged to have acted on behalf of the Revolutionary Guard and attempted to surveil and assassinate Trump. One case involved an Afghan and the other a Pakistani. Trump argued that the killing of Khamenei is the culmination of a prolonged unseen war and that the action was justified, as Iran was on the verge of developing nuclear weapons or attacking the US. At the same time, he stated he was open to cooperating with a new Iranian government, if it emerged from the war, expressing the view that some new faces could be "very good" partners.
