Trump Threatens 100% Tariffs on Canada if it Signs Trade Deal with China

Donald Trump threatened to impose a 100% tariff on all imports from Canada if the country signs a trade deal with China. Trump, via Truth Social, accused Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau (whom he continues to refer to as “governor”) of seeking to turn Canada into a “Warehouse Port” for Chinese goods destined for the US. Trump warned that China would “eat alive” Canada, destroying its businesses and way of life. He argued that a trade deal with China would lead to immediate economic consequences for Canada, with a 100% tariff imposed on all Canadian goods imported into the US. This threat comes at a time of heightened tension in trade relations between the US, China, and Canada. Trump has periodically criticized Canada’s trade practices and threatened tariffs in the past.
