Trump: "The US Runs Venezuela" - Threatens Cuba and Colombia

US President Donald Trump reiterated that the US “runs” Venezuela, following the capture of President Nicolás Maduro by US special forces. He declined to directly answer a question about who governs Venezuela, stating that the answer would be “very controversial.” The new interim president of Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez, called for a balanced relationship with the US, based on respect and mutual equality. She convened her first cabinet meeting and announced the establishment of a committee to secure the release of Maduro and his wife. The committee will be composed of government members and will aim to negotiate the release of Maduro. At the same time, Trump threatened military intervention in Colombia, implying that he could follow a similar tactic to the one used in Venezuela. These actions are causing strong reactions and concerns for stability in the region. The capture of Maduro and Trump's threats of further military action endanger democratic processes and the peaceful resolution of disputes.
