Trump: "Rodriguez Will Pay if She Doesn't Do the Right Thing" - Also Eyes Greenland

Donald Trump stated today that the interim president of Venezuela, Delsy Rodriguez, will "pay a higher price than Maduro" if "she doesn't do the right thing," in an interview with The Atlantic. He emphasized that Venezuela is "bankrupt" and a "disaster," and that "reconstruction and regime change" are worth more than the current situation. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that the United States will cooperate with Venezuelan officials who make "the right decisions," but will maintain its means of pressure, such as the oil embargo. Earlier, Trump had stated that Rodriguez was ready to cooperate, however, she responded that the government in Caracas is ready to "defend" Venezuela. In addition, Trump reiterated his desire to acquire Greenland, an autonomous territory of Denmark, a NATO member country, stating that "we need Greenland, absolutely." This statement was made when asked if the US operation in Caracas could be an indication of the island's future. Trump's statements underscore the US determination to pressure Venezuela to achieve political change, while also highlighting his interest in geopolitically strategic areas such as Greenland.
