Trump Issues Threats to Other Countries After Venezuela

Donald Trump has made a series of threatening statements towards other countries following the arrest of Nicolás Maduro. Speaking to reporters on Air Force One, he described the President of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, as a “sick man” involved in the production and trafficking of cocaine into the United States, predicting he would not remain in power for long and leaving open the possibility of military intervention. Furthermore, Trump stated that “something needs to be done about Mexico” and argued that Cuba is “ready to fall on its own,” ruling out the need for military intervention. Senator Lindsey Graham, an ally of Trump, reinforced this argument, describing Cuba as a “dictatorship that kills priests and nuns.” Trump emphasized that his priority is to “fix” Venezuela and secure access to the country’s oil reserves. He justified the US intervention in Venezuela as an application of the “Donro Doctrine,” a reference to the Monroe Doctrine and his own name. He also issued a direct threat to Venezuelan Vice President Delcy Rodríguez, warning that she could face a similar fate to Maduro if she does not comply with US demands. Finally, he claimed that Cuban citizens lost their lives during the US operation in Venezuela.
