Trump Issues New Threat of Military Action Against Colombia: 'Sounds Like a Good Idea' – References Cuba, Mexico, Greenland

Less than 48 hours after the operation to arrest Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his transfer to the US to be tried for drug trafficking, Donald Trump has escalated further, openly threatening Colombia, expanding the scope of US interventions. He characterized Colombian President Gustavo Petro as a “sick man” involved in cocaine trafficking and hinted that a military operation in the country would be “a good idea.” In addition, Trump referred to Cuba, Mexico, and even Greenland, suggesting possible future interventions. He reiterated his view that Greenland should become part of the US for security reasons. Senator Lindsey Graham, an ally of Trump, argued that Cuba is a dictatorship that “kills priests and nuns” and that its days are numbered. Trump emphasized that his priority is to “fix” Venezuela and leverage its oil reserves for the benefit of the US and Venezuelans. He justified the US intervention in Venezuela with the “Donro Doctrine,” a reference to the Monroe Doctrine and his own name. He also threatened Delcy Rodríguez, the new president of Venezuela, that she would face a similar fate to Maduro if she does not comply with US advice.
