Trump Ally's Wife Posts Greenland Image with US Flag, Prompting Danish Response

The wife of White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller sparked reactions on New Year's Day by posting an image of Greenland colored with the American flag, accompanied by the caption "SOON." This move was interpreted as a reference to former President Donald Trump's expressed desire to annex Greenland to the United States, citing security concerns and interest in the island's mineral resources. The Danish ambassador to the US, Jesper Møller Sørensen, responded immediately, calling for "full respect for the territorial integrity of the Kingdom of Denmark" and reminding of the close alliance between the two countries. Greenland and Denmark have repeatedly rejected Trump's proposals to purchase or annex the island. Miller's post comes at a time of heightened tension, following the appointment of Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry as a special envoy to Greenland by the US government. This move had raised concerns and questions about US intentions. Experts interpret recent actions, such as the US military's arrest of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, as a warning to other US allies who may be concerned about potential US attempts to gain control of strategic resources, including Greenland.
