Transparency… on a Case-by-Case Basis for Speed Camera System

Parliament has passed an amendment to increase transparency in the speed camera system, allowing the Police to publicize the areas where mobile cameras will operate. However, publication is not mandatory, leaving it up to the Police to decide whether to inform the public. Initially, the bill proposed mandatory daily announcements of control areas, but after consultations, the regulation became more flexible. During the discussion, MPs pointed out shortcomings in the implementation of existing legislation, such as the failure to install warning signs. At the same time, distrust was expressed by some citizens, who view the system as a revenue collection mechanism rather than a road safety tool. The Ministry of Transport stated that signs are often removed or destroyed.
