Η Διεθνής Ολυμπιακή Επιτροπή (ΔΟΕ) ανακοίνωσε ότι απαγορεύει στις trans γυναίκες να συμμετέχουν σε όλες τις γυναικείες κατηγορίες των Ολυμπιακών Αγώνων.
Σύμφωνα με την ανακοίνωση, ο περιορισμός ισχύει για τη συμμετοχή σε οποιονδήποτε αγώνα γυναικείας κατηγορίας στους Ολυμπιακούς Αγώνες ή σε οποιαδήποτε άλλη διοργάνωση της ΔΟΕ, συμπεριλαμβανομένων των ατομικών και ομαδικών αθλημάτων.
Πλέον, θα μπορούν να συμμετέχουν μόνο βιολογικές γυναίκες, κάτι που θα διαπιστώνεται με γενετική εξέταση.
Η νέα πολιτική του οργανισμού ευθυγραμμίζεται με το εκτελεστικό διάταγμα του Προέδρου των ΗΠΑ Ντόναλντ Τραμπ, σχετικά με τα γυναικεία αθλήματα εν όψει των Αγώνων του Λος Άντζελες το 2028.
Σημειώνεται ακόμη ότι η εν λόγω απόφαση θα εφαρμοστεί από τους Ολυμπιακούς Αγώνες του Λος Άντζελες το 2028 και μετά, ενώ δεν έχει αναδρομική ισχύ.
