A devastating fire broke out at a goat and sheep farm in Meniko, Cyprus, on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, resulting in the death of approximately 1,000 newborn animals. The Fire Service, in collaboration with the Police and the Electromechanical Services, is investigating the cause of the fire, while also examining the heating conditions within the farm. The farm was constructed with plastic linings for hygiene purposes, which contributed to the rapid spread of the fire. Farm workers alerted the owner and the Fire Service, but by the time firefighters arrived, the fire was already out of control and no animals could be saved.
