Traffic: Same "Solutions" with the Same "Result"

The traffic problem in Cyprus has reached tragic levels, with significant economic, social, and environmental impacts. Despite the numerous proposals and suggestions made in recent years, governments and local authorities continue to rely on the same solutions, such as building new roads or widening existing ones, which offer only temporary relief. According to Lecturer – Transport Engineer Paraskevas Nikolaou, the emphasis should be placed on a rational and sustainable strategy that takes into account the causes of the problem and the mistakes of the past. The history of traffic in Cyprus began with the first appearance of the car on the island, but the severity of the problem has increased dramatically over time. The lack of long-term planning and the inability to implement effective measures have led to a situation that seems unsolvable.
