Trade Union Responds to Justice Minister's Remarks: 'Our Voice is Not a Nuisance'

The trade union ISOTITA responded to statements made by Justice Minister Kostas Fytiris, who had negatively commented on the 'noise' and 'disturbance' caused by trade union reactions. ISOTITA emphasized that trade union action is part of democratic functioning and not a source of unrest, pointing out that the Police is not a camp and police officers are not simply executors of orders. Particular reference is made to a telephone conversation between the Minister and the President of the union, Nikos Loizidis, in which the phrase 'decapitation' was allegedly used against Mr. Loizidis, which ISOTITA considers unacceptable. Mr. Loizidis responded to the Minister's statements, declaring that he will continue to be a trade unionist from any position he holds, while accusing the Minister of personal attacks and malice. ISOTITA is committed to continuing to defend the rights and dignity of police officers.
