Published January 7, 2026, 13:32

The Theatre Organisation of Cyprus (Thoc) and the surrounding area have been placed under tight security measures ahead of the Inauguration Ceremony of the Cypriot Presidency. Police have deployed snipers to “sweep” the area, while bomb disposal experts and sniffer dogs have thoroughly checked the area for potential dangers. Access to the area is strictly controlled, with road closures and vehicle checks. A red carpet has been laid at the entrance of Thoc for guests, who will pass through an archway under police supervision. Police have banned parking on several streets around Thoc. All roads have been closed since 2:30 PM, with full control of accessibility. In addition, a decree has been issued strictly prohibiting the use of unmanned aerial vehicles (drones) in the wider area of Thoc and the Conference Centre, throughout the duration of the Presidency.
