“The Shah Will Return”: Iranian Protests Continue Despite Casualties

Anti-government protests in Iran continue with unabated intensity, starting as a demonstration against rising prices and escalating into broader demands. According to Iran Human Rights, at least 27 protesters have been killed by security forces and over 1,000 have been arrested. Simultaneously, one police officer was killed in clashes in western Iran. Protesters are chanting slogans such as “The Shah will return” and “Khamenei will be overthrown,” while police have used tear gas to disperse them. These protests represent the largest wave of demonstrations in Iran since 2022, when the country was shaken by the death of Mahsa Amini. The situation remains tense and violence is escalating.
