The 'Progressive' Whitewashing of a Tyrant (and the Evidence)

Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro faces some of the most serious and comprehensive accusations leveled against an active head of state in decades. These accusations, stemming from UN reports, international human rights organizations, and the U.S. Justice Department, include crimes against humanity, systematic repression, executions, electoral manipulation, and connections to drug networks. The UN Independent International Fact-Finding Mission on Venezuela has documented a well-organized system of repression, with executions and torture. Elections under Maduro are characterized as a sham, with the exclusion of opposition candidates and a lack of transparency. The social and economic collapse in Venezuela has led to mass emigration, with nearly eight million people having left the country. Simultaneously, the U.S. Department of Justice accuses Maduro of narco-terrorism.
