The Librarian Who Risked His Life to Save the Ancient Manuscripts of Timbuktu

Abdel Kader Haidara, a librarian from Timbuktu, Mali, risked his life to save approximately 350,000 ancient manuscripts from destruction by Islamist extremist groups in 2012. Haidara organized a secret operation to transport the manuscripts out of the city, using various means of transportation and facing enormous risks. His actions are considered one of the most important cultural rescue operations of modern times, saving an invaluable cultural heritage of Africa.
