Thanasis Case: Defense Claims Smear Campaign in Media, Material Delay

The proceedings of the private criminal prosecution brought by the family of Thanasis Nikolaou before the Limassol District Court continued with discussions regarding the non-delivery of evidence to the defense and the preliminary objections that the defendants will raise. The defendants are forensic doctor Panikos Stavrianos, former Limassol Police Chief Andreas Iatropoulos, former Limassol TAE head Nikos Sofocleous, former Rural head Christakis Nathanail, and former Lania police station head Christakis Kapiliotis. The defense protested the late delivery of the material and the defamation of their clients in the media through statements by the family's lawyer and the family itself. Furthermore, they questioned the legality of the family's lawyer, Savvas Matsas, acting as prosecutor due to his previous role as an independent criminal investigator in the Thanasis Nikolaou case. The court decided to deliver all evidence in digital and printed form within ten days and set a new date for the case on February 19th.
