Tension at Livestock Unit in Geri - Owner Refused Sample Collection

Tension arose at a livestock unit in Geri when officials from the Veterinary Services attempted to conduct a sample check on animals as part of measures to prevent foot-and-mouth disease. The owner of the unit initially refused to allow the collection of samples, leading to an argument and the intervention of the Police. According to the Police, the owner's refusal caused tension, however, he eventually agreed to the inspection and the collection of the necessary samples. The incident ended without further problems. The incident comes at a time of increased concern about the outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease in Cyprus, with livestock farmers expressing their concerns and planning protest events, such as a march to the Presidential Palace on Saturday.
