Teachers of Support Programs Stage Strike, Demand Job Security

Teachers from the support programs of the Ministry of Education went on a 24-hour strike on Thursday, March 26th, protesting the uncertainty surrounding their job security and salaries. The teachers gathered outside the Presidential Palace, expressing the need for new legislation to ensure the continuation of their employment with the same rights as public employees. They point out that their employment is renewed annually, without recognizing their prior service, resulting in them remaining on the same salary scale. The march was organized by PASYDY and included representatives from the SEK and PEO trade unions. The protesters held banners with slogans demanding “Work with rights and dignity” and “Recognition of our service.” Their goal is to pass the new legislation before the dissolution of Parliament. Following a meeting with government representatives, Giorgos Konstantinou, General Secretary of OEKDY SEK, stated that discussions are ongoing. However, the teachers remain determined to fight for their rights. This situation highlights the need for a sustainable solution that will ensure the future of teachers in support programs and recognize their contribution to education.
