Taxi Drivers Warn of Escalating Measures

Taxi drivers in Larnaca held a four-hour warning strike yesterday, from 7 am to 11 am, protesting the lawlessness prevailing at the city's airport due to the illegal transport of passengers in private vehicles recruited by electronic platforms. They demand stricter police controls and threaten a 24-hour strike on January 20th and another on January 28th if their demands are not met. The drivers accuse the platforms of not respecting the laws and decisions of government bodies, as they use private vehicles at a rate of 30-40% without a license. They are calling for a complete disconnection of the applications' activity from the airport and strict adherence to the taxi rank by all electronic platforms, urgently raising the issue of their professional survival.
