Taxi Drivers Threaten Indefinite Strike Over Unfair Competition

Taxi drivers in Cyprus are threatening an indefinite strike starting January 27th if measures are not taken to address the issues facing the industry. The main problem, according to the drivers, is the increase in illegal taxi services (piracy), which has grown out of control. They also report violations of taxi zones and the illegal operation of intercity and rural taxis on urban routes. Drivers state that the situation has led to a decrease in customers and significant delays in service, sometimes requiring a 24-hour wait. They are calling on the Ministry of Transport to honor previous commitments to facilitate parking and service for taxi drivers at Paphos Airport.
