Substance Linked to Death and Illness Found in Larnaca Water Cooler

The State Chemistry has identified the substance GBL (gamma-butyrolactone) in the water from a cooler linked to the death of a 78-year-old and the hospitalization of four other people in Larnaca. This substance, which is used industrially but has also been linked to illegal use as a psychoactive substance, is being investigated as to how it ended up in the cooler. Police investigations are continuing at a fast pace, while the clinical condition of those hospitalized is improving.
