Stylianou Case: 'Forced to Grow Up in an Abusive Environment'

The hearing continues in the case of the suicide of 14-year-old Stylianos Konstantinou, with the testimony of two police officers. The case includes 218 charges against 11 people, including the child's parents and officials of the Social Welfare Services, regarding events and omissions that led to the child's death. The charges against the father concern physical and psychological violence, while against the mother, failure to report incidents of violence. The officials of the Social Welfare Services are accused of neglect of duty, with two of them having already pleaded guilty. During the hearing, it emerged that Stylianos' mother had reported to the Pera Chorio-Nisou Police Station that her husband forced her to work on his farm all day, without time for rest and social interaction. The case was filed as 'non-criminal' by the Police, as the officer stated, 'the Police are not concerned with divorces'.
