Students Convicted for Using AI to Create Pornographic Content in Limassol

Two underage high school students in Limassol have been sentenced to suspended prison terms for creating and distributing pornographic material using artificial intelligence (AI). The students admitted to creating images featuring the faces of their classmates and a teacher, which were circulated in student groups. The case was reported in November 2025 and reached the courts, with the court imposing sentences of 12 and 9 months suspended for three years, as well as conditions such as supervision by a guardian and 120 hours of community service. This case is reminiscent of a similar one tried in October 2024, where a 14-year-old student circulated altered photos of his classmates, causing disruption. In both cases, the immediate intervention of school and judicial authorities was crucial. The incident highlights the risks of inappropriate use of AI technology by minors and the need for prevention, supervision, and education in digital security. Protecting victims from psychological pressure and harm to their personal lives is also of utmost importance. This case underscores the need for increased awareness of the potential consequences of creating and distributing indecent material, as well as the need for effective prevention and response measures to such incidents.
