Strong Explosion in Rome: Building Collapses – Seriously Injured Elderly

A strong explosion occurred in Rome, causing part of a building to collapse near the highway to Fiumicino Airport. The explosion, likely caused by a natural gas leak, led to the evacuation of 70 residents from the surrounding areas. An elderly couple, aged 84 and 86, was rescued with serious injuries and transported to the hospital. Mayor Roberto Gualtieri visited the site and pledged immediate assistance to those affected. Firefighters continue their search for potential trapped individuals, aided by specialized dogs, as the collapse caused extensive damage.
