Stranded Cypriots in the UAE, Diplomatic Efforts Continue

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced a difficult situation for Cypriot citizens in the United Arab Emirates, following the US and Israeli attacks on Iran. Diplomatic contacts are ongoing with EU member states, third countries, and international organizations to find a solution. There is currently no question of activating the EU solidarity clause, as efforts are focused on bilateral contacts. The majority of stranded Cypriots are in the UAE, with most in Abu Dhabi being accommodated at no cost by the state. A different process of compensating reservations is being followed in Dubai, while the Republic is also utilizing financial resources to cover expenses. There are also Cypriot citizens on a cruise ship in Qatar and in Bahrain, for whom efforts are being made to transport them to airports in Saudi Arabia and from there to Cyprus. The repatriation efforts are at an advanced stage, but depend on the situation of the airspace and airports. There is no new information regarding the ESTIA Plan, as developments will depend on the opening of airspaces. The situation remains difficult and requires patience and cooperation.
