State of Emergency Declared by Maduro After Explosions in Caracas (video)

Strong explosions shook Caracas, the capital of Venezuela, in the early hours of Saturday, causing panic among residents. According to reports, the explosions occurred near a military base, Fort Tiuna, and at an airport in the state of Miranda. There were also reports of military helicopters overflying the city. Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro has declared a state of emergency. The incident comes at a time of heightened tension with the United States, after US military strikes on vessels allegedly involved in drug trafficking. US President Donald Trump has left open the possibility of military intervention in Venezuela and has stated that the days of Maduro are “numbered.”
