Starmer Condemns Trump's Remarks on Afghanistan

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has described as “offensive and frankly appalling” remarks made by former US President Donald Trump regarding Afghanistan, where he claimed NATO troops stayed away from the front lines. Starmer expressed the pain caused by these statements to the families of the 457 British soldiers who lost their lives in the Afghanistan war, emphasizing that if he had made a similar comment, he would have immediately apologized. Trump's comments, made in an interview with Fox News, have drawn widespread condemnation from British politicians and veterans, who pointed out Trump's own avoidance of military service during the Vietnam War. Trump had claimed that NATO would not support the US if asked, stating, “We never needed them.” He added, “They said they would send some troops to Afghanistan… and they did, they stayed a little back, a little away from the front lines.”
