Smuggling Case Linked to Potential Animal Trafficking and Foot-and-Mouth Disease

A case of cigarette smuggling is evolving into a security issue, as information has emerged that the 75-year-old man arrested is systematically involved in the transport of animals and other products to and from the occupied territories. According to reports, the same person was arrested in December in the occupied territories for attempting to transport animals. Police are investigating the possibility that the man is the 'link' connecting illegal animal trading and is related to the spread of foot-and-mouth disease. The Customs Department is informing the Police about the new evidence. The man had already paid a fine for the smuggled tobacco products and was released.
