Slight Increase in Flu A Hospitalizations, But No Cause for Alarm

Following the New Year, there has been an increase in hospital admissions for Flu A in public hospitals in Cyprus. Spokesperson for the Cyprus Public Health Service (CPHS), Charalambos Charilaou, described this increase as expected for the season and not alarming, as it is observed every year from January to April. The CPHS states it is fully prepared to handle the increased demand in both Accident and Emergency Departments and hospitalizations. Furthermore, no increase in visits to Accident and Emergency Departments for other reasons or cases of overeating were recorded. The slight increase observed is attributed to the absence of personal doctors due to leave. At the same time, rapid flow clinics continued to operate normally, serving non-emergency cases without delay and to the satisfaction of patients. In summary, the situation with Flu A is under control and the CPHS is prepared to meet the needs that arise, while the increase in visits to Emergency Departments is due to other factors and not to an outbreak of the flu or other seasonal illnesses.
