Six-Year Jail Sentence for Possession of Nearly 2 Kilograms of Cannabis – Previous Conviction

A 38-year-old man has been sentenced to six years in prison by the Larnaca Criminal Court for possessing 2 kilograms of cannabis. Police report that his previous conviction for a similar offense was considered an aggravating factor. The defendant was found guilty of possessing narcotics with the intent to supply them to others. During a search of a prefabricated structure he maintained, the 38-year-old threw a package of drugs out the window and attempted to flee, but was stopped by the YKAN. A total of two packages containing almost 2 kilograms of cannabis were found at the premises. The defendant claimed the drugs were handed over to him for safekeeping by another person, however the court rejected the request for mitigation of the sentence due to his personal circumstances, considering them of lesser importance in drug trafficking cases. He had previously been convicted to 2.5 years for cannabis possession.
