Significant Findings from the Ancient Port of Peyeia

This year's excavations at the ancient port of Peyeia, conducted by New York University (NYU), have brought to light significant findings, including over 700 kilograms of amphora shards from the Late Roman period, dozens of inscriptions in red ink, and evidence of large port works from the time of Justinian. The amphorae, of local and Cilician manufacture, as well as imports from Palestine and Gaza, indicate intense commercial activity. In addition, the study of a carved tomb from the Hellenistic and Roman periods continued, with analysis of organic residues in Roman cooking vessels to better understand dietary habits and funerary rituals.
