Published January 7, 2026, 08:21

Greece is facing a significant increase in flu cases, leading to a surge in hospital admissions. Charalambos Charilaou, Spokesperson for the Cyprus Public Health Care Organization (OKYPY), expects further increases in admissions in the coming days, particularly among the elderly. The importance of caution when interacting with vulnerable groups and avoiding the spread of the virus is emphasized. Regarding RSV, the situation is better compared to last year, possibly due to the vaccine. Pediatrician Panagiotis Yagou reports that half of the children with fever have influenza A and stresses the importance of vaccination and isolation to prevent the spread. The flu is characterized by high fever and high transmissibility.
