Published January 12, 2026, 07:29

Greece is entering a period of intense bad weather starting today, Monday, with a significant drop in temperature, snowfall even in low-lying areas, severe frost, and strong north winds. The National Meteorological Service has issued an orange warning for the deteriorating weather, which will last until Wednesday, January 14th. Snowfall has already been recorded in areas of northern Greece, such as Drama, Kavala, Halkidiki, and Rhodope. Today, snow is expected in the mountainous and semi-mountainous regions of mainland Greece and Evia, as well as in the plains of Eastern Macedonia-Thrace, Serras, Halkidiki, and parts of Thessaloniki. Snowfall is also expected on islands in the North Aegean (Lemnos, Lesvos, Chios, Sporades) and from the morning in Evia, the Cyclades, and Crete. The authorities are advising increased caution during travel due to frost and reduced visibility. The cold wave is expected to persist for several days, making the weather particularly demanding across much of the country.
