Serious Health Condition of Former President George Vassiliou

The health condition of former President of the Republic of Cyprus, George Vassiliou, is considered serious, as he has been hospitalized since January 6, 2026, at the General Hospital of Nicosia with a respiratory infection. He is receiving all necessary medication and supportive care, as well as medical and nursing attention. The Minister of Health, Neophytos Charalambides, visited the hospital to be briefed on Mr. Vassiliou's condition, speaking with his attending physicians. George Vassiliou, 94, served as President of the Republic of Cyprus from 1988 to 1993. The seriousness of his condition is causing concern, while the medical team is closely monitoring the progress of his health.
