SEK Urges EU to Protect Labor Standards

The Cyprus Confederation of Workers (SEK) has appealed to European leaders to prevent policies that degrade labor standards, ahead of the meeting on European Industrial Policy in Brussels. SEK warns against attempts to reduce wages and worsen working conditions through the “28th company regime,” which it believes strengthens unfair competition. It argues that competitiveness should be achieved through investment in technology, education, and innovation, not through reducing labor costs. SEK calls on President Christodoulides to support the protection of quality jobs and promote investment in human capital and social cohesion.
