Security Level Maximized in Akrotiri, Says Justice Minister

Minister of Justice and Public Order, Kostas Fytiris, stated that the security level in the Akrotiri area has been maximized and expressed confidence that normalcy will return to the daily lives of residents. He made this statement during a meeting with the Mayor of Kourion, the Deputy Mayor of Akrotiri, the District Officer of the British Bases, and the Assistant Police Director of the British Bases in the Akrotiri Community. Mr. Fytiris pointed out that his visit was scheduled in the Limassol Province, but intentional to Akrotiri, due to its location next to the British Bases. He stated that the Ministry of Justice is willing to assist the Municipality of Kourion in matters of security and cooperation with the Police and Fire Service, in consultation with the British Bases. He mentioned that local authorities are concerned due to the proximity of Akrotiri to the Akrotiri Airport of the British Bases, but expressed confidence that composure and preparation, combined with the initiatives of the President of the Republic, have significantly increased the level of security. Regarding the return of residents to their homes, Mr. Fytiris stated that this will be a matter for the Mayor and the Ministry of Interior. He also referred to the issue of sirens, which is being handled by the Ministry of Interior, expressing confidence that a system for early warning and information will be found soon.
