“Sector 2” | Nicosia that Touched Athens

The “Sector 2: Nicosia” exhibition at the Hellenic Parliament’s Tobacco Warehouse is a significant cultural event presenting the history and human experience of Nicosia, focusing on the burden of division. The exhibition, part of the Cultural Program of the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the European Union 2026, was inaugurated with the participation of prominent figures from Greece and Cyprus, highlighting the close cultural ties between the two countries. The success of the exhibition highlights the role of the Embassy of the Republic of Cyprus in Greece as a center for cultural diplomacy, promoting the history and culture of Cyprus. The exhibition transcended the boundaries of a simple cultural event and became a point of international interest, with the presence of many ambassadors and officials. The contribution of the Deputy Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Cyprus was significant, using the exhibition as a tool for outreach and international dialogue. Also, the Leventis Municipal Museum of Nicosia, a major historical memory institution, played a key role in recording and highlighting the history of the city. The exhibition presents a multi-dimensional experience, using historical documents, archival material, everyday objects, artistic installations, and personal testimonies. A particularly moving point is the presentation of an object from a house near the Green Line next to photographs of the same neighborhood before and after 1974, conveying the human dimension of history.
