Russian Strikes on Port of Odesa - Local Ceasefire in Zaporizhzhia for Repairs

Russian strikes on port infrastructure in Odesa overnight caused fires and damage to equipment, warehouses, and food containers, according to Ukraine’s deputy prime minister. Despite the attacks, the Ukrainian shipping lane remains operational, having handled over 176 million tons of cargo, including 150 million tons of grain. Alongside this, a local ceasefire was announced near the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant to carry out repairs on an external power line. The news was confirmed by the International Atomic Energy Agency, which stated that demining operations are underway for safe access for crews. The Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant, the largest in Europe, has been under Russian control since the beginning of the war in 2022 and does not generate electricity, relying on external power for cooling. Russia and Ukraine mutually accuse each other of actions that endanger its safety. Russian officials announced that the ceasefire was achieved with the help of IAEA head Rafael Grossi. One of the power lines remains in operation, while repairs to the other are expected to take a week. Radiation levels are normal.
