Romania on Red Alert: Blizzards Paralyze Airports and Road Network – Thousands Without Power

Romania is on red alert due to heavy snowfall and blizzards affecting the central, southern, and eastern parts of the country. Airports are paralyzed, the road network is disrupted, and thousands of households are without power. The situation is described as the most severe of the winter. Nationwide, power outages have been reported in 205 locations in 10 counties, affecting over 166,000 households. Otopeni Airport in Bucharest has closed, with flights canceled or diverted. Public transport in Bucharest has been disrupted, and trains have been delayed. Sections of highways and national roads have been closed in various counties. Rescue services have intervened to remove trees and power poles that have fallen due to the weight of the snow, as well as stranded vehicles. The Romanian National Meteorological Service has issued a warning, and the Department for Emergency Situations has activated the RO-ALERT system, urging citizens to avoid travel.
